Helen & Lorena's Place Brings India's First Porto-Spanish Crafthouse to Bengaluru
Discover Helen & Lorena's Place, India's first Porto Spanish Crafthouse, serving authentic European inspired food, signature cocktails and an in house bakery in Bengaluru.
Bengaluru has never been short of new restaurants. Every week brings another opening, another menu, another concept promising something different.
But every now and then, a restaurant arrives that isn't simply introducing a new cuisine. It's introducing a completely new way of thinking about hospitality.
Helen & Lorena's Place, which opened on 10 July 2026 on Sarjapur–Varthur Road, calls itself India's first Porto-Spanish Crafthouse. At first glance, that sounds like another modern restaurant label. Spend a little time understanding the idea behind it, and it becomes clear that this is something much more deliberate.
This is a Crafthouse. Every part of the experience, from the architecture and menu to the cocktails and hospitality, has been designed to tell a story rooted in two places that have shaped the restaurant's identity: Porto in Portugal and San Sebastián in Spain.
The result is a restaurant that is built around memories, traditions and craftsmanship.
What does "Porto-Spanish Crafthouse" mean?
Most restaurants begin with a cuisine. Helen & Lorena's Place begins with two fictional hosts whose personalities shape the experience.
Helen represents Porto. Porto is Portugal's historic riverside city known for its generous hospitality, seafood traditions, slow-cooked meats and relaxed way of bringing people together around a table.
Lorena draws inspiration from San Sebastián in northern Spain. A city recognised worldwide for its bakery culture, neighbourhood taverns and deeply rooted food traditions.
Interestingly, here the two cuisines aren’t mixed to make something new. The restaurant allows each influence to retain its own identity while sharing the same space.
The cocktails reference the Iberian Peninsula. The interiors borrow visual elements from Spain. The bakery follows techniques inspired by San Sebastián. Even the way birthdays are celebrated reflects the restaurant's commitment to telling a consistent story.
Craft is the thread that connects everything together.
The team behind Helen & Lorena's Place
The restaurant is the latest venture from Bengaluru-based Passionate People Ventures, better known as PP Ventures.
While Helen & Lorena's Place may be their newest opening, it builds on several years of experience creating destination restaurants across the city.
Their portfolio now includes Roxie in Harlur, Roxie & Barry in Whitefield, Helen's Place in Marathahalli and now Helen & Lorena's Place on Sarjapur–Varthur Road.
Founder Pravesh Pandey believes hospitality should create emotional connections rather than simply impress guests. Helen & Lorena's Place is perhaps the clearest expression of that philosophy so far.
Why this opening matters for Bengaluru
Sarjapur–Varthur Road has become one of Bengaluru's fastest-growing residential and commercial corridors over the past few years.
Thousands of professionals now live around Sarjapur, Varthur, Bellandur and nearby tech parks. Yet many still travel to Indiranagar, Koramangala or central Bengaluru when they're looking for a memorable dining experience.
Helen & Lorena's Place changes that.
The area now has a destination dining concept designed to compete with some of the city's most established hospitality addresses. For residents in East Bengaluru, that means one less reason to spend an hour in traffic for a special meal.
The menu brings together Porto and San Sebastián
The food follows the same philosophy as the restaurant itself. The kitchen gives both culinary traditions space to shine independently.
One section focuses on Porto-inspired comfort food built around slow cooking, rich sauces and hearty meats. Another celebrates the lighter flavours and coastal traditions of northern Spain. This creates a menu that offers a broad range of items to try.
Whether you're visiting for lunch, dinner or drinks with friends, there's enough variety to encourage sharing while still allowing every dish to retain its own identity.
Porto's comfort food
The Porto side of the menu centres on dishes that feel warming, generous and deeply comforting.
One of the standout dishes is the Red Wine Braised Chicken, slowly cooked with pearl onions and smoky bacon until the meat becomes exceptionally tender.
Another signature is the Portuguese Pork Chorizo served alongside herb mash, bringing together robust flavours that reflect Porto's long-standing culinary traditions.
These are not small servings. They're satisfying meals intended to be shared around a table, much like they would be in homes and taverns across northern Portugal.
Flavours of San Sebastián
Lorena's side of the menu brings a lighter, coastal influence inspired by San Sebastián.
Often regarded as one of Europe's great food cities, San Sebastián is known for seafood, grilled meats, olive oil-based cooking and neighbourhood taverns where simple ingredients are treated with care. That philosophy comes through clearly here.
The Andalusian Garlic Prawns arrive sizzling in olive oil infused with garlic, creating a dish that is both simple and packed with flavour.
The Octopus à la Plancha is another highlight. Cooked over high heat to develop a smoky char while remaining tender, it reflects one of Spain's most recognisable seafood preparations.
For something heartier, the Lamb Merguez Sausage Skewers combine North African spice influences with Spanish cooking traditions through harissa, cumin and expertly grilled lamb.
You'll also find Lumpia Cigar Rolls served with a smoked pepper dip, adding another layer to a menu that isn't afraid to explore regional influences while staying rooted in the broader story of the restaurant.
The dishes are designed to share, making it easy to experience several different flavours during one meal.
Lorena's Panadería: The in-house bakery experience
Perhaps the restaurant's most distinctive feature isn't the dining room or the cocktail bar. It's the bakery.
Known as Lorena's Panadería, the in-house bakery brings together recipes inspired by the bakeries of San Sebastián, producing fresh pastries and savoury bakes throughout the day.
It's a concept rarely seen in Bengaluru, particularly within a restaurant.
Among the highlights are the Cutie Pies and Cuddle Puffs. Furthermore, you can also try out:
- The Caramelised Onion and Goat Cheese Puff balances sweet onions with creamy goat cheese inside delicate pastry.
- The Chicken Ghee Roast Puff gives a familiar Karnataka favourite an entirely different format while still respecting its bold flavours.
- The Cream Cheese and Bacon Puff Burger offers something completely different again, combining bakery techniques with comfort food in a playful way.
Whether you're stopping by for coffee, returning for dessert or simply curious about the bakery itself, Lorena's Panadería deserves attention beyond being an add-on to the main menu.
Save room for dessert
The dessert menu carries the same level of detail as the rest of the restaurant. The dessert curation focuses on classic European desserts prepared with careful attention to technique.
The Crema Catalana remains one of the signatures.
Finished with caramelised sugar that cracks under your spoon, it delivers the contrast between crisp caramel and silky custard that has made the dessert a Spanish classic for centuries.
The Cherry Amaretto Tiramisù offers another standout, adding fruit and almond notes to the traditional Italian dessert while maintaining its familiar richness.
Then there's the tableside Crepe Suzette. Prepared and finished in front of you, it brings back a style of restaurant theatre that has become increasingly rare in modern dining. Watching the dessert come together adds something memorable to the experience.
Cocktails built around stories
The cocktails are built around flavour, storytelling and ingredients that connect back to the restaurant's identity.
Among the signature serves are San Sebastian Stories, Bougainvillea Balcony and Pineapple Postcards.
Each drink has been created to reflect different moments, places and memories connected to the Iberian Peninsula. The recipes remain grounded in balance and drinkability, making them approachable whether you're a cocktail enthusiast or simply looking for something different from the usual classics.
The bar complements the food encouraging guests to move naturally from dinner into a slower evening over drinks.
Inside Helen & Lorena's Place
One of the most impressive aspects of Helen & Lorena's Place is how consistently the concept has been carried through the space.
The windmill-inspired architectural feature immediately establishes the restaurant's visual identity while referencing Spain's landscapes. Hand-drawn illustrations appear throughout the venue, reinforcing the handcrafted approach suggested by the word "crafthouse."
Even the menus, packaging and written details throughout the restaurant follow the same narrative style.
Perhaps the most charming detail comes during birthday celebrations.
Instead of the familiar birthday song, the team serenades guests in Spanish, adding another small but memorable touch that strengthens the overall experience.
All these details work together to create an atmosphere where the storytelling extends beyond the plate.
