Who is Sonu Nigam?
Born in Faridabad in 1973, he began performing at the age of four alongside his father, Agam Kumar Nigam. His earliest public performances featured songs by Mohammed Rafi, whose influence would later earn Sonu the nickname "The Modern Rafi."
His breakthrough arrived in 1995 with ‘Accha Sila Diya’ from Bewafa Sanam. From there, his career expanded rapidly across Bollywood and regional cinema. Today, Sonu Nigam has recorded more than 6,000 songs in over 32 languages, making him one of the most prolific playback singers in Indian music.
His contribution to Indian music was recognised nationally in 2022 when he received the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian honour.
