Mezcalita Bengaluru: Inside Indiranagar's New Mexican Cantina and Tequila Bar

Mezcalita Bengaluru brings authentic Mexican flavours, standout agave cocktails, and vibrant cantina energy to Indiranagar.

Published on

If you've walked down Indiranagar's 12th Main Road recently, you've probably noticed a building that's impossible to ignore. Bright colours, hand-painted details, blooming bougainvillea, glowing signage, and a lively energy spilling onto the street. That's Mezcalita, the Mexican cantina and tequila bar that arrived in Bengaluru in early 2026 after building a following in Mumbai.

It takes inspiration from Mexico's regional food culture, neighbourhood cantinas, and agave traditions, bringing together authentic flavours, tequila-focused cocktails, and a space designed to feel like a celebration from the moment you walk in.

For Bengaluru diners looking for something beyond the usual pub and brewery circuit, Mezcalita brings a fresh identity to one of the city's most competitive dining neighbourhoods.

What is Mezcalita?

Mezcalita first launched in Churchgate, Mumbai, in 2023 before expanding to Bandra in 2025. The Bengaluru outpost opened in February 2026, bringing the brand's colourful Mexican cantina concept to Indiranagar.

The name itself comes from the "Mezcalita", a cocktail closely related to the margarita but traditionally made with mezcal instead of tequila. That detail tells you a lot about the restaurant's philosophy. While many Mexican restaurants focus primarily on food, Mezcalita places equal importance on Mexico's rich drinking culture, particularly its relationship with agave spirits.

Instead of fitting neatly into one category, Mezcalita blends a full-service restaurant, an agave-focused bar, and a lively hangout spot where you're just as likely to stay for another round as you are for dinner.

One of Bengaluru's most distinctive restaurant interiors

Before you even enter, Mezcalita makes an impression. The exterior feels like a slice of contemporary Mexico transplanted into Bengaluru. Arched windows, colourful murals, handcrafted signage, illuminated details, and flowering bougainvillea combine to create one of the most visually striking restaurant façades in the city.

Step inside and the experience continues.

The ground floor revolves around a dramatic green bar that immediately draws attention. Behind it, shelves filled with tequila and mezcal bottles create a shrine-like display. Decorative papel picado banners, warm lighting, textured walls, and handcrafted elements give the space character without feeling overly themed.

The atmosphere becomes increasingly energetic as the evening progresses, especially on weekends when the bar fills up and the music gets louder.

The cocktail programme

While the food is important, Mezcalita's biggest strength is undoubtedly its drinks programme. Agave spirits sit at the centre of the experience. Tequila and mezcal aren't treated as simple cocktail ingredients but as the foundation of the restaurant's identity.

The cocktail menu draws inspiration from the tequila-making process itself, creating drinks that showcase different flavours, textures, and production methods.

One of the most talked-about cocktails is ‘Oaxaca to Osaka’, which combines tequila, sparkling sake, passionfruit, and vanilla. The combination sounds unusual but delivers a balanced mix of fruit, acidity, and subtle sweetness.

Another standout is Cha-Chinga, which blends tequila with lime, charred cucumber, jalapeño, coriander, and bird's eye chilli. It's fresh, spicy, and ideal for Bengaluru's warm evenings.

La Pomela offers a smokier profile, pairing mezcal with pomelo soda and sweet lime, while Horchata-Mezcal combines creamy horchata flavours with mezcal and black rice for something entirely different.

If you're visiting with friends, the Margarita Towers are designed specifically for sharing and have quickly become one of the restaurant's signature experiences. For non-drinkers, Agua Frescas and Horchata provide authentic Mexican-inspired alternatives without alcohol.

What to eat at Mezcalita

The kitchen takes a regional Mexican approach. Here you can:

Start with the tacos

The tacos are among the strongest items on the menu and consistently receive praise from diners. The Tempura Cauliflower Taco has emerged as a clear favourite, even among non-vegetarians. Crisp, flavourful, and well-balanced, it's often cited as the dish first-time visitors should order.

Try the tortas

A torta is a Mexican sandwich traditionally served in Telera bread, a soft roll with a distinctive texture and structure. Mezcalita bakes its own Telera bread, making it one of the few places in India where you can try an authentic version.

The bread is crisp on the outside, soft inside, and specifically designed to hold generous fillings without falling apart.

Burritos for bigger appetites

Inspired by the traditional Mexican origins of the dish, they're filling enough to serve as a complete meal and work particularly well for diners arriving hungry after work or before a night out.

Nachos

The Nachos Con Chile are another consistently recommended menu item. Served with cheese and a red bean dip, they're ideal for sharing and pair naturally with the cocktail menu.

Fresh guacamole is also available, though reviews suggest consistency can vary depending on the day.
